Rudder For Coastal Tripping Canoe

Kinder… hah!
Or it could be that an experienced paddler fitting a large solo tripping canoe with a rudder for open water paddling isn’t quite as whacky as putting a skeg on a pumpkin seed canoe.

OTOH if I had a Pack it would sport a skeg for sure, no a rudder, no a skeg, AAHHHHH!

Rig your boat how you like. If it works, we’ll all copy you. If it doesn’t, go to plan B.

In the mean time,

My Bad?
Don’t know if I was one of the self full…er…fool “experts” who knocked the idea of a rudder or skeg back then, but I have held that oppinion, that most folks for most canoe paddling sure as heck didn’t need 'em, and ought to work on paddling skills. Hopefully I would have said that in a civil way :-). That is still true to my mind, but I’m less rigid in my thinking about it now.

P.net has sure smartened me up. The more I’m on here the more I know, but also the more I realize I don’t know. …think I’ll go revise the profile down to raw beginner.

I’m suprised nobody’s mentioned Souris…
Souris River Canoe has a Sealine rudder mounted to one of their rigs…
