Solo Canoe Vs Tandem Performance

Be still my heart!
I love how fluid everything is. The underwater shots are a fish eye view with an occasional fish. Just wonderful!

When I paddle my canoe I think I love it best, and when I paddle my sea kayak I think I love it best. They excel in different ways. However, I do love a single blade and a good canoe.

I have a bunch of friends who come from the Bill Mason school who prefer to paddle solo in smaller tandem boats. It’s just not for me. It’s not a question of maneuverability - heeled over and paddled from the center a tandem boat can be very maneuverable. I just don’t like the width in the middle, and prefer a dedicated solo.

My friends are perfectly capable of solo paddling their tandems on trips where I take my solo boat - not a performance issue as much as it is personal preference.

Free-stylin’s beguilin’
butterfly of hull on surface,
but remember that canoe
often serves its other purpose,
whether gunk-holin’ or river flowin’
to carry paddler with some cargo,
and on heel like spinning wheel
canines and coolers the righteous embargo

Besides, I’ve got a gunnel-slouching West Virginia Porch Hound that seems to be taking me Canadian more often than I’d care to. Except in the Wenonah Voyager! There, like it or not, he contorts.
