Spare paddle: decent, or old beater?

“If I Had to Use it.”

Please stop thinking about 'spares' that you might 'have' to use. Get yourself a very Kalliste-like paddle with less surface area than your present paddle. When you turn into a stiff headwind switch to that paddle. If you think the Camano is heavy and you don't like it just sell it. Like Dr_Disco said, consider a GP for your upwind paddle.

Seadddict and Dr_Disco are both giving you good advice. Read 'em again.

edit: and CoffeeII is also on target... Don't carry around a paddle that you'll never use. Get one you'll use about 50% of the time.

Get another good one
I’d suggest another good paddle, but with different blades optimized for a vertical stroke, or smaller blades to run a higher cadence; a good set of blades but different, so you’ll tend to use both depending on conditions.
