1000 is enough to get a quality sea kayak with a little perseverance. Age doesn’t matter condition does.
not so much on Lake Superior where weekend trips really don’t exist. You have to plan for at least four days out. Your trip might be a two day jaunt to one of the Apostles ( we spent a week touring just four camping islands due to rough weather) but you have to have a bit more “stuff”. If you get into Ontario you are talking about a couple of weeks. We could not have jammed two weeks into a sixteen foot boat… Our boats have a bit of rocker though they are 17 foot plus. At least on the big lake you do not have to bring water.
Admittedly I used to play with surfing a Keowee … it was fun !
