The problem with winter is long nights

I have read the complete series. I have also read the complete 27 book series by the American writer Dewey Lambdin and feel they are on par with the O’Brian series. I really enjoyed both author’s works.

Yes, some of my favorite nights have been after a long day’s hunt walking the miles through the woods and meadows not on any manmade trails in Colorado mountains coming back to camp after sunset. I have often sat down on the way just to look up at the stars and planets in the inky black of elevations above 10,000 feet at night. Hiking across the snow on a moonlit night is other worldly to this southern Florida boy who grew up climbing Coconut and Banyan trees, and wondering what snow and mountains would be like.

Okay! Go ahead, gentle,
into that, long night.
But bring along a good book
and fifty-lumen LED light.

It’s gettin’ cold so stoke the stove.
Morrissey’s Warren would use oak.
But maybe one night let in delight,
a little wine and birchwood smoke.
