What is the coolest/most interesting bit of flotsam or jetsam that you've found?

I just nudged the BVM over to shore and propped her on one of the abandoned concrete barge docks (where the steel mills used to be) so she could bestow her blessings upon all the assorted boats and flotsam passing by.

On popular rivers like in California we call it eddy shopping. Unopened beers, sunglasses on floats, chap stick, paddles, hats, suntan lotion, dry bags.

Wow, some crazy things found. I can’t compete with that!
Upper Chesapeake, paddling a feeder creek in the woods. Turned a corner and saw a deceased deer half in the water. We figured it was sick and naturally found its way to the water.
Other found things: TWO nice fishing rods (at different times), and- just this year- at two different times, a SUP paddle. First one was returned to the owner because we saw them a mile or so ahead of us. Second one was deep in the weed line with nobody else around.

I found a message in a bottle. It took a while to get the cork out, it seemed like it had been in there for 40 years. Couldn’t believe it, but it was from Sting.

That’s a crazy story! I’ve had some unexpected finds while kayaking too, but nothing like that. Once, I spotted an old fishing lure stuck on a rock, and I thought it was treasure for a second. It’s wild to think about what ends up in those beautiful waters.

A truck wheel on an aluminum rim, with enough air in it to float. Towed it home and got $$ at the scrapyard. Glad I always carry extra rope.
