3. MSR Hubba- Two person freestanding $250-300
Huge room for size with high
dome. Good ventilation.
Flimsy poles. MSR has beefed them up in the last couple of years but mine developed spiral cracks. That despite never allowing the many segmented six legged pole snap together. Its a bit.h. folding the pole near freezing if you have smallish hands.
Mine lasted two years. Its now a backup.
Speaking of side entry
My favorite tent of all time is the REI Camp Dome 2: well made, strong, can stand up to just about any weather, 2 side doors, excellent ventilation, simple to set up, and CHEEEEEEEEAP. Just $100.
Only one drawback, for some people: no vestibules. I prefer it that way—much easier to enter and exit. I have found this tent completely waterproof without vestibules.
Check the excellent reviews for this tent. They attest to its performance in the rain.
