Whitewater Tandem Canoe Selection

interior laminate was fractured
Exterior not. The trip had to coninue. The impact was from a dead on hit on the bow that sent a circle of skid plate flying . (so much for them)

No moose involved in this on the Ogoki.

The other incident in Temagami was a wrap…Again the exterior was OK but did fold and crease. Charlie Wilson did his best to fix it… Interior patches.

ww boats
Composite boats and even wood and canvas ones can be used in fastwater, although the consequences of a mistake can be more disastarous. I have run a lot of rivers with those type of boats.

I like the discussion so far. The obvious answer is a used royalex boat in the prospector or Mad River Explorer tradition.

Which one is more disastrous?

Composites are fine.

Millbrook boats are whitewater boats that are composites and are tough. They aren't hard to fix. They do not have a foam core.

The Shaman is another WW boat in composite that is tough.

There is a whole spectrum of construction. To overly simplify it is an error.
