i have a cat that’s over 16 pounds and is small boned. i don’t, however, have a canoe that’s anywhere near 26 pounds.
My wife’s Wenonah Vagabond
also comes in well below the listed weight. It’s listed at 43 lbs (it’s a royalex), but it actually weighs only 38 lbs.
Maybe Wenonah does overstate the weights (that’d be a first!) or maybe (because I also bought it used) canoes work off some weight after time. After all, it works for me.

Does your boat have flotation chambers ? IIRC some of the earlier boats ( I first paddled an Advantage in the late 80s I think ) may not have had these, as I remember being able to see the water right up to the bow through the translucent hull.
Either way, $650 for that boat is a steal . Enjoy it !
Wenonah weights
Baldpaddler told the truth about the Wenonah catalog weights. Every manufacturer of composite hulls has variations in the weights due to the effects of the weather on the curing of the resin. The old Wenonah catalogs from the 80’ show lighter weights that were an average weight. The present weights were the heaviest weight seen for any model during several months of production. Most will weigh slightly less and some will weigh significantly less. Its rare when a hull from any other manufacturer beats the advertised weight by 2 pounds.

I learned not to trust Perception’s weight load specs and I’m vary of all claims now. I trust my Pungo.
Cats can weigh 17 pounds 10 pounds more or less.
My cross eyed blue point weighed six pounds most of the time, except when pregnant. She had a short but loving life and had to be put to sleep due to lung cancer.
My seal point used to be 20 lbs but in 1993 he began losing weight for no apparent reason, then I fed him tuna laced with metamucil. What I found in the cat box a few days later - well anyway he must have devoured a venison flavored plastic grocery bag and it came out the other end. He maintains a healthy 15 lbs now but he has loose skin on his belly that swings from side to side when he runs.
I have two fat cats, two little cats, and the one who ate the plastic bag. They all eat the same food. (but only the one ate the bag)
Actually think there is a lesson in this for the weight loss specialists but I’m not sure they would be interested.
