Wood/Canvas Prospectors

Quebec
Save a bundle of $. Go up to Quebec city area, have a great wknd, and look at this guy’s boats… http://www.canotslegare.com/vente/canots.asp?id_fournisseur=17

He deals with a couple of wood/canvas builders. Phine first to see what’s in stock. One of the few that posts prices.

Bearwood Canoes
in Parry Sound. Pam Wedd is a superb craftsman.

Why a Prospector?

I think you have fallen in love with the legend.

Sure they paddle nice but they are really deep.

Not the only sweet boat design out there.

Come to the WCHA assembly.

The prettiest most predictable and fun boats are Loon Works Desingns. The craftsmanship is superb under the skin. It has to be; Tom uses dacron and not canvas. Dacron telegraphs any wood mismatch. On Loon Works boats there are none.

His Duet seems to have heritage in the Prospector; similar lines though not as deep, heavy and a little less rockered. Plus he uses stepped rocker, not all builders do.

Loon Works
I know nothing of wood canvas, but there was a Loon Works canoe at Raystown last fall and it was by far the prettiest boat I’ve ever seen.

There's a used Muskoka Prospecter listed on the used & demo page of the Hemlock Canoe website.

Carrying Place seems to have very reasonable prices. I've never seen or paddled one.
