working with QCC rudder mounts

SealLine has 3 different mounts
The short pin

The long pin

and the rear mount like you have.

Looking at these, I have to wonder why QCC went with the rear mount instead of the short pin?

Not sure how that matters, except you could also think of ways to add a tube for the pin type instead of being limited to the rear bracket.

As I look at all the parts on this system, I come to appreciate my skeg even more (and I still felt compelled to tinker with that!).

Have you considered a non-SealLine solution aft, and just keeping pedals/cables?

yep
all the above. i had QCC build me a Top pin mount 700, due to the step that they cut in the deck to mount it, it was worst then the rear mount. So i got a skeg boat. They intire Smart track housing is just too big. I am leaning toward mounting a small wedge on the aft deck and making the top screw hole the bottom one and the new one will be in the wedge that i plan on epoxying on deck.

Note the intended flat
rear transom for the mount you have. Got a saw?

Oh
That’s not a problem, as you can just screw it in with washers to make it perpendicular!! thats how its done now.
