11 kayakers rescued from Dowagiac river

First!

Kayak safety! PFDs! Cold water! Planning! Insert cliche kayaking saftey phrase here!

I would think that if in one year 17 kayakers that got caught up on an obstruction behind his property that he had to help get to shore, the county would consider doing something about it. No telling how many others go caught up but were able to free themselves.

No doubt when someone finally drowns or is seriously injured there will be dozens of panicked people jumping up and down and suing someone.

I’ve paddled the Dowagiac. It’s pretty small and narrow and just full of trees and every type of logjam. With the relatively high water levels right now it’s not surprising to see inexperienced paddlers having problems.

At least we’re pretty safe from cold water after a few days near 90.
