we all make mistakes
but Netarts is a beaut.
Surprised by the voluminous communication on the subject.
Some here may not have read the essay/report.
next morning
Gino, wadja catch in the hole ?
Looks like a goat, Harriet.
A goat for dinner ?

Two Good Reasons To Avoid Maine.
Reread…
I did at least attempt to include the thought of IF you can roll. Somewhere in here I also mentioned dousing with water from a hat. And I always have a hat and sun glasses, especially since being told I have the early signs of cataracts.
Your idea that hat and glasses are not conducive to rolling tells me you have never tried. I paddle with not-twenty-anymore folks, all the more serious sea kayakers can roll and most of us wear shades and hats to protect from sun. I also practice with a helmet when I am alone, lest I misgauge the location of a rock.
Your comment indicated that a dry suit would be uncomfortably hot in the exact conditions where I have lived in one all day long. Air temp in the 70's. in chillier Maine waters and in training in likely warmer water off of your apparent home base, in Connecticut. It is a problem I have solved. Granted you may not like it yourself, but neither you nor I are everyone.
If you believe me to be an "authority" it is your own decision. I just comment on stuff like most here do.

I tried.
If I was stuck in FL all summer, I’d probably take cheap shots at Maine and other better coastlines also. Just not in a thread like this one.
VHF inland
Inland use of a Marine VHF is illegal.
Great Lakes are not “inland use”
The topic is Great Lakes use. Great Lakes use would be marine use.
And if you have a VHF with non-marine channels, it is indeed legal to transmit on those frequencies.
Yes, plz stay away from Maine
At least when I am in the state.
what doesn’t get the news
is the stories that involve guides leading their clients to safety. Just had one last week.
The Coast Guard was involved and they were glad to help. t
The group acted appropriately.

awww that’s humor
my Maine knowledge comes from McPhee and Kayakmedic.
McPhee wrote Maine in the New Yorker writing Maine was unhealthy unyielding harsh and as a resident unpleasant. Not so if going up for a week or 2 painting watercolors.
The weekend toll not counting unlisted terrors from the Saco was 8 dead and injured…from Google Alerts.
One more this morning from a farm pond. Good call on the farm pond but inevitable.
The current mortality rate may double last years total.
There is a legend
that the river takes three white men per year. But its a fairy tale.
