2016 AuSable River Canoe Marathon

July 26-31. Fun facts from their site:

"Of the 190 competitors entered in the 2016 AuSable River Canoe Marathon, Presented by Consumers Energy 67 are over the age of 50. Of those 67, 19 are over the 60 and 6 of those 19 are over the age of 70! ‘Amazing’ Al Widing, Sr. broke the AuSable Marathon years ago; he was a trail blazer in that respect. Having entered his last AuSable Marathon at the age of 89, he made it just about impossible for anyone to say, ‘I’m too old to enter that race.’

“This year, Alec Davis, 76, and Roger Henry, 74, both from New York, have an opportunity to break the record as the oldest combined-years team ever to finish the AuSable Marathon at a combined age of 150 years. The current record? It is 146 combined years set in 2014 by… Alec Davis and Roger Henry!”

Anyone from Pnet racing?

We have new champions this year! In 14:29, Ryan Halstead and Christophe Proulx outsprinted multi time champ Andy Triebold and his partner Jacob DuBois by 1 second!!!!

You need to google the AuSable river Canoe Marathon and watch Ryan Harris and his partner, Mathieu St. Pierre ( who is confined to a wheel chair) race to a very respectable 17:16 while Mathieu portages over 6 dams while Ryan carries the canoe. Emotional and impressive!!

One second after 120 miles…
Can’t even imagine how difficult that sprint must have been.

Mathieu St. Pierre (seen in the video) - no words sufficient to describe my admiration and respect for him.
