My 12 yo daughter finally started paddling and standing on her own board. She weighs 90 pounds and is 5’1". This year we rented hers since I only own adult iSUP. She started with a 7’x26"“x5”, which was too small, a bit unstable and didn’t go straight (it also had rocker). She also tried the 10’6"x30"x5", which was more stable, but too large (wind etc.).
For next year (she will be 13, and maybe a bit over 100# and maybe 5’3") I want to get her an iSUP that isn’t full adult size.
I think something like this cheap Honeydrill 9’x30"x5" would be perfect for 2-3 years.
But i found most (even smaller) iSUP are 6"thick. this i think is too much for her since that will raise center-of-gravity and also makes the iSUP more impacted by wind.
Are there more 5" iSUP? I know Red has one, but I’m not paying that money for a transitional (or any) iSUP. I found one on Amazon, but that is 10’6"x33"x5". This may be a bit too large and even larger than the one we rented that was too large. So, the above 9’x30"x5"may be perfect.
This isn’t urgent, but over Winter i want to keep my eyes open and buy one so we are ready in Spring.
