7,000 year old canoes found in Italian waters

While archaeologists often find simple dugout canoes, these 5 boats, found in a lake near Rome, show sophisticated and complex construction not seen before in watercraft this ancient:



They have found ancient ships and in one case built a duplicate and sailed it. Performance was different than modern boats but surprisingly good once they got some experience with it. Maybe someone will build a duplicate of these boats too.

Very cool. The Mediterranean coast was being traveled by sea even in the early neolithic.
