A Fun (Looking) Paddling Event in ME

Never heard of this event, 'tho near my “neck of woods”… I appreciate the reporter actually trying to provide some nuanced info about the diverse paddling crafts and paddlers:

That race is today. I want to find out what kayak Trevor MacLean paddles, guessing a downriver kayak near 17" beam.

Here it is…looks to be kevlar…not much above water…no sprayskirt…bike helmet…lol

Wow. That has got to be a challenging boat to race with on textured water…

Maybe he’s stuffed in there so tight that there’s not much room for water. Hope so anyway.

This is probably one of the most famous paddling races here in Maine.

In the weeks leading up to the event, the local television news channel will talk about the predicted upcoming water levels and how it will affect the racers like how much, or how little white water there will be, etc. And the race winners will always be mentioned along with highlighted clips of bigger moments in the race. Its a local event, but well covered and I have gone as a spectator a few times. Its a fair like atmosphere with food trucks and the like.

There are several others arounds the state too though. Like a well-known one in Liberty, Maine made better in the past few years by some major culvert improvements on area roads.

There is good paddling here in Maine for the most part.
