A remarkably unique and beautiful kayak:

it is the URSA “420”…
after all.

Sure hope someone posts the reason for that hump.

I kinda like the baidarka-ish stern though.

hump - easy to roll
The hump prevents it from being upside down (capsized). At worst the boat lays on its side, and from there it is a simple matter to right the boat.

He designed the boat with safety in mind.

Makes Sense
I’d be interested in seeing it tipped over and righted.

Hatch covers
Has anyone seen or used covers such as these? I see the yak in the background also using the magnets. Would they be strong enough to keep the water out, yet allowing you to open them easily?

it’s a custom order
for Sir Mix-a-Lot

You can see a fiberglass version of it being rolled in a pool. He told me the pictures are real and not faked. The kid is actually rolling the kayak without help.

ditto

I Know a Guy…
who could use that boat. He has tried and tried and can’t roll a kayak.

You suppose the Ursa could be used as a learning tool for the beginning roller?

don’t know…
I was going to buy this boat for my wife, who has been paddling an Impex Mystic for years. She has no interest in rolling, and I thought this boat would be safer for her. I also like the extra cargo capacity as we do extended kayak camping trips.

If you look around the guy’s site, you will see pictures of this boat in action. I think I saw four of them strapped to the top of his car.

I would send him an email. He is very pleasant, and will answer your questions to the best of his ability.

“remarkably unique”

how unique can it be?

It’s Fugly Pretty
How water tight are magnets??

Ditto - Magnet Covers

A Rolling Teaching Tool Maybe
I’d put the hump in front to make a layback doable.
