About the Wilderness Tripping category

From the Adirondacks to Yellowstone, from Maine to California paddlers are venturing into the wilderness for weekends or extended trips. Meet others, discuss locations, gear, and more!

We are beginners but would like to work up to canoe touring/camping. We are seasoned campers, have traveled for years, by motorcycle and camped all over North America. We are retired now and travel much of the year. We have day tripped in our canoe in the Everglades, Springs in Florida and have spent some time in the water in Maine where we are in the summer and fall. Would love to extend our experience to travel by canoe and multi day trips. I took a trip throuh the Adirondacks, when I was young and never forgot it. If you could offer suggestions, to a couple of 74 years old who still like an adventure, we would appreciate your help.
Thanks

Find some good guide books. Talk to local paddlers. Do your research. Find a club to learn moving water skills. Practice rescues. Learn to travel light and use a boat big enough for people and equipment.

For the Boundary Waters Canoe Area MN and the Quetico ONT there is a massive forum on just about any wilderness topic that you could think of.
