Ford says not to do it but most of the time I can pull in overdrive except for windy days. On those gaps in the Blue Ridge it drops OD and even get down a couple of gears. I looked at the new Rangers but they don’t do any better and cost a bunch of money, plus the insurance and personal property tax goes way up (higher than I’m paying now on the car and truck together).

With my 1999 7.3 Powerstroke, RPM makes the most difference in fuel mileage. Keeping the tach below 2,000 is best. If i recall, this is 70ish in 6th gear.
Generally get from 14 - 18 mpg and maybe 10ish loading and pulling a trailer. I havent tried to calculate it for a long time. It is what it is.
I can hold close to 40 gallons so range isn’t a concern, just the painful OPEC payments.
