This stuff is way more dangerous then I realized and the OP stated the local rentals don’t even mention it to their customers.
The more assets you have in your kit and the more prepared you are, the better your chances. My phone is hooked to my seat, but the VHR is on my PFD, which I keep buckle at all times to prevent it from slipping over my head if I open the zipper to ventilate. The only thing I have to worry about is my paddle.
I sometimes bring my handheld VHF radio and even a pocket flare kit. Didn’t “bother” to pack them that day. Now they’ll always be with me in areas such as this. Couldn’t hurt.
This is what I want to know, you are a real fit guy, pretty safety conscious, a lot of experience and still fell into a situation that could have been really dangerous? That makes you think.
Active but definitely not fit. Could lose a lot of weight.
New to me so I looked it up. Their armored vehicle plunged into Fifteen feet of water and muck! The picture of the excavator next to what just looks like a muddy field is sobering.
Let’s get to work on it…

From the photos I saw I thought the men may have exited. I could be wrong, but it seemed like they had the vehicle uncovered but hadn’t found all the men yet. Regardless it was tragic. I have some experience with shallower bogs, and they look solid.
Never heard of this, have to look it up…Link?
