Pretty surprising - beginning of February, and most of the rivers in southern New England are ice-free. I got out yesterday for an afternoon trip on the Hunt River in RI. It’s more of a marsh than a river, but there was actually a little current coming downstream. Paddled upstream until the brush took over the river, took a break at a local conservation area and headed back to the put-in.
We have some cold nights coming up, but it will be above freezing every day this week, and next weekend is forecast to be in the 50’s. Hopefully the open water remains - I’ve probably jinxed it now.
