Another warm weekend - Willimantic in CT

After the bitter cold in late December and early January, things have warmed up nicely here in southern New England. This weekend we have temps in the mid 40’s and rain - can’t beat that. Yesterday, I got out with a couple of friends to paddle a section of the Willimantic River in eastern CT. At the right level, the Willimantic alternates between flatwater and quickwater. I was a little low yesterday, so we spent most of out time looking for fluid channels. Still a nice day with no ice. Here is Jonathan running the dam in Stafford Springs.

Actually today would have been a better day to go since the river went up over a foot overnight.

63 and raining here.

Nice! The second from last photo showing what looks like stone abutments. Any background on that?

Not to put a fine point to it, but the weather here in the PNW was very nice and sunny yesterday–much like a spring day. It started out very early with some frost, but that went away very quickly with the sun warming things up. I took one of the sea kayaks up to a lake and had a good paddle with a bunch of other folks who were taking advantage of the weather.

Old bridge abutment - probably a railroad spur to an old mill.

Nice to have weather around here like you have in the PNW. Doesn’t usually happen this time of year.
