Yes.

Not a snake, or a Dog, or a Gator. Legally camped in a National Forest, on the second night of a three day trip. Turned out I chose to camp in a site frequented by a group of ATV’ers who believed that particular area belonged to them. The altercation began when a group of three ATV’s entered my campsite at a high rate of speed at 1 AM, headlights bright, engines loud; one of them caught a guyline to a tarp I had hung, the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree.

None of the group thought it was anything other than my fault and had intentions of exacting payback. Four to one odds, (One ATV was riding double, the others were carrying what was left of the beer in coolers), limited ability to withdraw (I had kayaked to my campsite), and the mixture of testosterone and beer (Both THEIRS).

Skip through the reparte, talking was not doing any good…

End result, one permanently disabled ATV, and TWO ATV’s riding double on the way out…

I chose to fire up the ATV instead of the driver or his friends…

Discretion the better part of valor, I packed up and moved down stream to a secluded campsite, and bailed at first light.

Ya’ll roast me now…
I’m heading to the lake for my New Years Eve paddle with friends…See ya tomorrow…

Congrats…
That is the nightmare scenario we all hope never happens.

yeah i can see that happening
Shitty scenario and i can seriously see it happening. Which is why i think a gun isn’t an entirely bad idea when you’re out alone in the middle of nowhere.

Sounds like you made the best of a
bad situation. Maybe they thought better of their antics in the morning. It was easy for them to act righty as long as they thought they were mighty, but when they lost some of their ride, they got smarter.
