I have a new one and have paddled it twice. It is my 5th Tarpon. My last one was a 160.
I have not paddled seriously for several months and then it was a Pungo 140.
Every review I’ve read says ithe T140 is a fast boat. That is not my impression.
Am I dealing with a learning curve and expecting too much from a heavy plastic boat?
I no longer own mine, but I can tell you it isn’t as fast as the 160. However, for a heavy, plastic SOT it is relatively “fast”. Although, compared to the Stellar it probably feels like a wallowing tub.
I paddled one the first year WS introduced the model. Both boats appear to be somewhat similar bow the waterline, woth. The main difference being the sit on top vs. sit inside the open cockpit. Although the dimensions are similar at 14’ x 28" and the same maximum load capacity of 350 lbs. However, the SOT design adds 10 lbs of additional weigh, so there’s greater displacement. The Tarpon weighs the same as the 175 Tsunami that has a maximum load capacity of 400 lbs.
My guess is you prefer the SOT for ease of entry and exiting. That’s the tradeoff for feature that you desire. It should be much differentbto paddle than the Pungo. My Two Pungo 140s are Duralite and weigh in at 43 lbs. I consider the light 140 model to be very fast for a rec boat.
If youre talking about the 14’4" by 24.6" wide Puffin, that must we a but faster, but I didn’t see the weight listed on the site.
And it’s for sale because I’m too long for it. The good thing about the T140 is that its cockpit fits me.
