Article about outfitter "adapting" to virus

While they have adapted to minimize spreading the virus at the point of the tour, it begs the question of impact in the broader view. The outfitter is located in a somewhat remote Florida village of 359 residents, so generating business generates travel, possibly interstate, and all the ramifications of that. This flies in the face of Florida’s governor’s plea to restrict travel because of the heightened threat to his citizens. It’s a matter of perception and opinion, but such practices during this crisis merit scrutiny.

Instead they should close the road into that little island except for the residents.

Wed PM: Florida’s governor has just issued a stay at home order.

Jeeze, he is one to act ahead of the curve… NOT. Rivals the mayor of NOLA, who waited on our scientifically inclined POTUS to declare this is “more than the flu…”

Fear not, it’s all a Chinese hoax.

But weren’t the trips to the glades right next door, little or no real travel.

@sing “Fear not, it’s all a Chinese hoax.” you have been reading the wrong places on the inner tubes. It’s

  1. Created by the Demoncrats & the North Kroreans, tested in Chinia to take down the beloved.

  2. Created by the Publicans to kill off the global society and lock down everyon’s boarders.

  3. Created by Lex Luthor & The Joker to take over Gotham City

  4. Created by Dr. Evil in his volcano lair & distributed by sharks with lasers so that he can take over the world.

  5. All of the above, Some of the above, or None of the above … your call.

The patrons have to travel to get there. Their tiny village of 359 has virtually no market for them, so people have to travel to take their tours.

Holy moly… Just watched DeSantis explaining why he didn’t act sooner. “Was waiting for guidance from his leader at the white house…” Good luck to those folks who fled down there … The notorious FLA sinkholes will now serve a purpose in coming weeks and months.

The govenor’s new stay at home order has a lot of exceptions but they have practically done that. I’d also say that since it is South Florida stay at home is a good idea. Y’all are real close to the middle of the greatest number of cases…Miami and Dade/Broward counties.

Good point. They are also likely tourists. Or bored shut ins. Either way the press deadlines for that magazine we’re likely in an earlier time…like February. Things were different in February.

The Airstream magazine, The Blue Brera (sp for French hat) recently came out all about the International Rally this summer. Of course it was cancelled about two weeks ago. Things change.

This is about the first stand the Gov has taken. What beaches in Florida were closed were closed by the local politicians.
When the road to the Florida Keys closed the Gov had the Highway Patrol in on it for about 2 hours until someone bitched and then he pulled them out. The local cities volunteered their county patrols to man the road block.

Not to worry: unlike the states that ALREADY had seriously overstressed hospitals that received very little or none of what they requested in medical equipment and PPE from the National Reserve (Mass got 17%, Colorado got only a day’s worth of disposables), Florida has already received DOUBLE what they ordered with another shipment pending that will make their total allocation 3 times what they requested. Pays to have friends in high places when everything the Executive Branch does is transactional and/or vindictive.

Vindictive is right.

Guess that’s what states like MA and CO get for not being kneejerk Trumpeters. The offense is Breathing While Democratic. Or anything but “His Highness’s” gang,

NOT that such petty, unpresidential behavior will get him any votes from the people he hates so much.

IMO any state that waited until the last few days to order a statewide, consistent hard lockdown - and that includes a few like Louisiana, Alabama, Florida and Maine - is in for a ride that’ll make upstate New York look like a walk in the park. Downstate is a situation unto itself. While we are generally doing decently we are not on the other side of this thing yet.

I signed up for historian Heather Cox Richardson’s daily posts (she sends an email or you can follow her – no ads or screaming banners, just a few concise paragraphs of data and news she has collected). I look at her report every morning because she hits the major issues and also add info other media do not and adds historical background. The one she posted this morning (she tend to do it in the wee hours — she is a college professor and still teaching on-line so she gets off the update before she goes to bed.) The one from this morning was even more alarming than usual, since she limns in detail the grotesque ineptitude and chaos of the medical equipment response (or lack thereof ) of the Executive Branch. This is far worse than we are being lead to believe. For instance, one administration official contacted Thailand to see if they had PPE they could spare to send to the US. The confused Thai official stated that they were awaiting a shipment of PPE that was en route from the US!! Total lack of coordinated effort. The King sits naked and tweeting on his throne while his minions continue to tell him how glorious his garments are:

How long before the admin closes this thread for being “political”? There used to be the “bicker and banter” section, but I don’t think sharing the bleak details of a reality that affects us all, as paddlers and humans, constitutes opinionated “banter”.
That facts have a well-known “liberal bias” should not preclude sharing them.

Nothing new since this “king” was throned (and throughout all his incompetent and unconscionable “grifter/businessman/entertainer” past–and present), but worth repeating and remembering. Unfortunately.

I feel so sorry for Tybee. How long until “Savannah City Beach” is infested with infected visitors, in a small town with very limited (out sick) police force? I don’t even remember if they had a medical center or not.

The governor there must get his cues from The Orange Blight. Money is the only god.
