Hello all, I was a member of this group many years ago and had the pleasure of paddling with some of the members over the years. I retired in '15 and in '16 built out a campervan and began an adventure of hiking, biking, and birding all over the US. I have solar panels on my van so I use a trailer for my boat, and due to logistics of traveling off grid most of the time, trailering wasn’t a good option, so I haven’t paddled in a few years. I’m a very active 70 and just relocated to SE KS from KS. I’ve paddled extensively in FL and MI, AR (Buffalo), and a little in MO (Current). I’m looking forward to dusting off my Wenonah Vagabond and reconnecting with the paddling community. Cheers to all.
Welcome back!
Welcome back. Always good to see folks returning to the forum.
If your travels ever bring you to or through the Keystone State ¶ you’d be welcome to base camp on the shady parking pad beside my own boat-hauling camper here on the outskirts of Pittsburgh (120v hookup at the adjacent garage and access through the garage to the walkout basement’s toilet and shower).
Within 15 minutes to an hour drive from me are 4 major rivers, numerous smaller streams and a sprawling 3300 acre lake. I’m also retired and always happy to share my favorite paddling spots (kayak or canoe) with visitors for day trips – other P.com’ers have taken me up on this over the years. And as a birder, you might enjoy a rainy day visit to the National Aviary here in the city. You can even paddle beside a WW II era submarine at our riverside Science Center.
Lots of great paddling in our state – check out the 225 mile West Branch Susquehanna River Water Trail that runs north of I-80 across much of the north central region. It’s been proposed for designation as a National Wild and Scenic River.
Thanks for the welcome and the info. I spent about 8 weeks in PA the summer of '23 riding rail trails and hiking. Met some nice folks as well. Your state has some great trails and I didn’t even get to the GAP trail on that trip.
Thanks!
