The South Fork of the Ogden and the Payette sections must have been thrilling. I’m especially curious about your experience on the South Fork from Grand Jean to Bonneville—sounds like a fantastic stretch.
Next time you are in Northern Utah let me know. Our farm is about a half mile from the Bear River near the Idaho border (flat here, but there is stretch of whitewater below Oneida Dam. ) I had no idea the South Fork of the Ogden River is a good run, when I grew up here it was a mess of strainers etc. I’m just learning decent places for whitewater since kayaking was not a thing when I grew up here.
South fork of ogden tight with over hanging branches, brush, very narrow. Really more of a II but requires good boat control, put in at memorial park.
South f.payette narrow as well, wood more consequential, crystal clear cold water, think trout stream with micro gorges. GrandJean is on the back side of the sawtooth range and good hiking as well, 7 miles of dirt road to campground

Fish lake utah, Utah’s largest natural lake is at 9000 feet, much of the lake has well behaved (trolling) motor boat traffic but the far end is shallow, where the wildlife and I hung out.
It’s the largest natural “mountain lake”, definitely not largest lake or largest natural lake. The mountain lake definition is open to debate, but usually means a lake near the tree line. Lots of natural lakes that are larger than Fish Lake have been damed to provide more capture of water.
Fish Lake was my friend’s father’s favorite place to fish. He seemed to know exactly where the fish would be on any give day. Have not thought about him in years.
