BELL ANGLER

IF ANYONE IS USING ANY OF THE “FISHING STYLE CANOES” PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR IMPUT.

RIGHT NOW I’M LOOKING AT THE BELL ANGLER.

ANYONE USING THE BELL ANGLER PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR IMPUT ON IT.WHATEVER I BUY WILL BE USED ON LAKES AND SMALL STREAMS.

THANKS.

For fishing alone, I prefer a solo canoe
For two, the canoe should work. I’d prefer a 16 footer myself, at least 15 for two, but with the width, there should be sufficient room. Wenonah also builds a fisherman model, you may want to take a look at it.

Looks like…
it would be a fun canoe to fish from, but I also don’t like short canoes for fishing two people. Far more danger of hooking your partner on the cast. More difficult to stow extra rods. I prefer at least a 16 foot tandem canoe for those reasons.

Also, I couldn’t find anything about how easy it is to remove those swivel seats. Unless it is REAL easy, having them would be a pain if you’re planning on cartopping the canoe.

Personally, I’m not a fan of canoes with any kind of “built-in” features, like swivel seats and rod holders and “work stations”. I’d much rather get a plain canoe and set it up exactly the way I want, rather than depend upon a manufacturer to set it up.

BELL ANGLER
I WOULD LIKE IT LONGER ALSO,BUT WITH BACK PROBLEMS I NEED A SEAT THAT HAS A BACK REST.

I AM LOOKING AT OTHER CANOES ALSO.

THANKS.

I paddled one and liked it. But, not enough to buy it. At that time the hull was similar to the MorningStar. I found that the bucket seats tended to make the canoe feel tippier than it would without them. The latest design looks like they may have improved upon that. Don't limit yourself to just the Bell Angler becasue of the seats. Any canoe can have a backrest added after market. All my canoes use a backrest as it makes fishing out of them way more comfortable. As far as other canoes go, will you be fishing and paddling alone or with a partner in the same boat. I started out going tandem but now use a solo canoe exclusively. A solo is a great way to fish. There are a ton of good canoes to choose from out there.

Crazy Creek also makes some nice
looking seats:

I’ve the Sitbacker sold by L.L. Bean…bought mine at Gander Mountain for less. But, its not been a comfortable one for me. Helps a bit, but not enough for me to recommend it. I’ll probably be looking at either one of the Crazy Creek seats or maybe one from Wenonah.

BELL ANGLER
I’LL BE GOING BOTH WAYS,SOLO AND TANDEM.

I AM LOOKING AT THE WENONAH SERIES AS WELL AS OTHER MAKES.

I AM LOOKING AT AFTERMARKET SEATS BUT I LIKE THE IDEA OF THE SWIVEL SEAT SO I CAN FISH FACING THE SHORELINE.BUT THATS NOT LOCKED IN STONE.I’M PAYING ATTENTION TO ALL THE IMPUT I GET FROM THIS FORUM.

THANKS.

BELL ANGLER
I CHECKED OUT CRAZY CREEK,LOOKS LIKE GOOD STUFF.

THANKS.

I’m not sure why the swivel seat
would be that much of an advantage. You cannot do a full swivel, so your body is still twisted when you turn toward the shore. Those are the same seat sold for jon boats and such. the biggest advantage is the modes cushioning.

NOT HAVING SEEN ONE I DIDN'T KNOW HOW MUCH ROOM THERE IS,BUT I HAVE THOUGHT THAT THERE MAY NOT BE MUCH.
I USED TO HAVE AN OLD GRUMMAN WHICH I PUT SWIVEL SEATS IN AND I WOULD PROP MY FEET ON THE GUNWALE OR HANG MY LEGS OVER THE SIDE(AND WATCH FOR SNAKES)BUT IT WAS A WIDE AND HEAVY BOAT.

i have a wenonah…
…Adirondack and have added a third center seat using OEM materials. At 16’, it’s long enough for DW and I to fish and holds DD in center. Solo, the center seat is needed. Don’t use a drop in seat for soloing - they don’t work if paddling from them.

I also use the soft back seat:

GOTTCHA AND THANKS

I own a Bell Angler
Please feel free to send me an e mail, about you concerns. I have enjoyed mine, but have plans to sell, I have two new sit on top kayaks, and a new Alumacraft boat, to many nice toys. That a nice problem to have, the Canoe is very nice, I bought it 5-6 years ago and my son and I fished out of it every weekend in the summer, now his grown and we moved to the sit on tops and have really enjoyed them.

Hope to here for you.
