Best fiberglass paddle for the money?

Werner or Aquabound
I’d be looking at the Werner Skagit or Aquabound Manta Ray, both good paddles and in the $130 range. I’d try to get at least a carbon shaft to keep the weight down.



Carlisle is good too but the ones I’ve seen have limited feathering options, like inline or 60 degrees of feather only.

It just happened to match. If you were choosing between two paddles of equal quality and one matched your boat wouldn’t you pick it?

Low angle
For your uses, get a low angle.



A 2-piece Aquabound Sting Ray would be perfect, and if and when you get more involved in paddling, would make a great spare.

In the mail. The Carlisle I linked above. I can’t tell if it’s more low angle or high angle. Is it really right in between?

My Carlisle just showed up
It looks and feels nice but it doesn’t have any rubber grip, don’t most paddles have some kind of grip? If so why do you think it doesn’t, and would it be difficult to add one?

no, they do not
Most paddles do NOT have a “rubber grip”. I have owned 8 paddles and none have had one. You generally only find them on cheap aluminum shafts. I’ve never seen them on a fiberglass, carbon or wood shaft. Such materials are not as slippery as aluminum and don’t need a “grip”. You can buy neoprene foam sleeves to slide onto the shaft but they are unnecessary. Bare hands give good grip and you can wear paddling gloves if you need cushioning.

I guess I’ve been living on the wild side, I’ve been known to high angle paddle with my 100% low angle paddle.
