bird watching

What a fowl look!

Yeah man! I saw my first Rose breasted Grosbeak on Monday. No joke.
(Rex is a very common name for dogs)

Rex is a great name for a manly man or an apex predator or a male pet but hardly appropriate for a girly girl like Zoey.

Zoey is a sweetheart and I’m having a very good bird week. Just saw an Ovenbird in the park. Have seen very few of them before. (Well maybe I have and didn’t know what I was looking at). It’s hotter’n hell outside today. In OCTOBER. Ovenbird is appropriate.

Our local nature center has birding contests and the winners typically identify over 130 species which blows my mind. I on the other hand had to google Ovenbird since I was curious if it was slang for turkey.

The duck in the first pic was absolutely preoccupied with chowing down on whatever was on the downstream side of the log. We paddled right past and it just kept eating and making those quiet duck purring noises and it barely even looked up. I made a u-turn to take the pic and only then did it finally look up and I think you can still see water dripping from it’s duck mouth.

Rex is a name often found in my wife’s romance novels. And dinosaur books.
