How well does a Bob special track when going solo?
Is this boat reasonably fast, or not?

It doesn’t track well, although a decent paddler can keep it running in a straight line pretty easily. It’s reasonably efficient as a solo, more so than many tandems, but not as good as a well-designed solo boat.
Having said that, I learned to solo in a Bob Special and I’d be glad to have one again. It’s a very pleasant boat to paddle. It’s one of those boats that has a very pleasant blend of paddling characteristics. I sold mine because I was moving to dedicated solo boats, but I can’t say as I ever found anything to dislike about the Bob.
