Breathable rain gear

Any suggestions for light weight small packing affordable breathable rain gear???

red ledge thunderlight
If you want the best, buy goretex. But it’s not cheap.

I like the Red Ledge thunderlight gear. It’s very light, breathable, and water proof. It’s great for backpacking, and Sierra Trading post often has it for sale. Right now, tops are marked down to $30 or so, which is a great deal (compared to $250 for good goretex), and pants are about the same.

Marmot Precip is very good, and sometimes you can find last year’s models for under $100.

LL Bean’s ultralight gear is good too, and reasonably priced.

FroggToggs
I like my Frogg Toggs. Keep an eye out, you can find tops and bottoms on sale for $49.00

Stearns
I Picked up some Stearns rain gear from Wally Worlo (Wal-Mart) I think they were about $30 ea. jacket & pants. Their not gortex but their not 100 bucks either.

here are some thoughts

Marmot PreCip jacket…
Haven’t looked at pants yet…

Marmot
Wife and I both have the Marmot Precip pants and jackets. Love them.

Ditto Red Ledge
Good quality. It’s a coated (not laminated) waterproof/breathable fabric, so it won’t last as long as a three layer (e.g., Goretex) piece. But at $30 for a pair of rain pants, you can afford to replace them after a few seasons.
