build a Greenland paddle: Dee Hall's jig

A Massachusetts paddler and engineer and member of of, has designed a fine and handy jig good for shaping Greenland paddles with a router and handtools. Her approach is much different than the methods currently available. It's pretty fast and efficient (not to say that the others aren't!).

I've posted photos and text on the jig and its use on a blog at

If you take a look at the right hand side of the blog, there's a crawlback through to all the posts which describe the method in detail.

There's lots to recommend Greenland paddles, not the least of which is fewer tendinitis injuries to wrists and elbows, given a wooden paddle's inherent flex and a Greenland blade's lower torque.

Come have a look and feel free to post comments.

Verrrryyy Interesting
but I’ll bet I could make a GP using a draw knife and a block plane a lot faster than I could build that jig.
