Camp chair
We just lug along full-sized folding chairs – with arms - similar to Terry’s nappy time model. Even on our wilderness treks we carry the “biggies”, we strap ‘em to our packs and go. Yeah, I’ll admit that they’re a bit heavy & awkward and can be a PIA on the longer portages… but I rationalize that I carve extra pounds off just about all the other gear we drag along. A big comfy chair on the other hand… well, it’s just great to have a nice relaxing place to sit and kick back in camp. Of course we’re solo canoeists so we have room in our boats for such luxuries.
I don’t much care for those “ground level” chairs that are so popular these days with paddlers. Maybe I’m just too damn old to sit on the ground (and eventually have to get up). The idea doesn’t hold much appeal.
Having said all that… I’ve been looking at the “Roll-a-Chair” for some time and think I might just order up a few one of these days. These look like a fine little chair for day-tripping on rivers, especially for those “thin water” days when some drag-overs are on the agenda.

These seem fairly similar to the GCI Quick-E-Seat that SuperTroll provided a link for above. The most noticeable difference would appear to be that the Roll-a-Chair has 4 legs while the Quick-E-Seat has just 3. From my experience a 3 legged stool will always sit “level” even on un-level terrain, while a 4 legged stool may rock some… On the other hand it’s well known that a 3-legged stool falls over very easily compared to a chair with 4 legs.
Note: REI also sells the Roll-a-Chair, but they get $7 more (per each) than Campmor.
Now if I had an army of porters to follow me around callin’ me “Bwanna” and such I have one of these of course:

You could always add
pontoons, and pull it behind your boat…

Camp Chair, GCI
I had a problem with the legs bending. But the company stood by their warrantee. They gave me the option of a full refund or a newer version of the trail-sling chairs. I took the chairs. So far, after a few uses, we’ve had no problems.
Crazy Creek
i guess i’m one of the few
but I like the CGI slingchair for paddle camping…used it daily on the Fontana trip 2 weeks ago…I have contacted the company and asked for a version that is a pound lighter (carbon)so i could use it while backpacking. I’ve probably got 3 hours total sitting/reclining in it and do find it comfortable and i like the packed size too.
Carbon version weight
MedicineMan, what does the carbon version weigh.
