camping on outerbanks

Looking for a good family campground for a summer weekend, I am looking to explore pea island preserve are there any campgrounds near there or are there any that have kayak launches at the camp site so I do not have to load unload all trip, thanks for any help

Campgrounds
There are a few options for camping, but the only real on-water campgrounds are farther south in the Avon, Buxton and Frisco areas.

There’s a National Park Service campground right across from Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, and another in Frisco. Both are on the ocean side, rather than the sound.

Hope this helps – Tom

Spent a week there
a couple of years ago.

Stayed at State campgrounds on the beaches and loved it.

Be sure to bring sand stakes and bug spray (biting sand flies)

Frisco Woods campground has direct access to Pamlico Sound. It is about 3 - 5 miles south of Canadian Hole if I remember?

Frisco woods is a good
campground. I’ve used it twice for youth and family camping events. The camp store is well stocked. The grounds are well maintained. Good access to the sound for canoe or kayak. Access to the beach side is close for those that want to swim or surf cast.
