Value
I believe $2000 might be realistic for a kayak with excellent design work on the deck, which this one doesn’t have. More effort and materials went into this long kayak, but the length is probably a strike against the resale value. As discussed elsewhere in the forum, the resale value of a wooden kayak is sadly low, compared to the amount of work that goes into it and the often beautiful designs. I guess that’s a reflection of low demand—it takes a knowledgeable person to appreciate a wooden kayak, and undoubtedly many are afraid of breaking up of rocks.

Wooden boats are a tough sell

too much maintenance for most people and they really need to be stored indoors and not everyone has a garage. IMO you might get $900 to $1000 for it IF you find someone who likes the design, is the right size to paddle it, and has no interest in multi-day paddling trips.

At 18'7" X 24" it is a big beamy kayak built for a large person. That kayak is really too big for a paddler under about 180 lbs, a 220 lb paddler would probably be about right, and with that one tiny round hatch up front it is basically useless for hauling any camping gear without some modifications.

Wooden Boat Magazine has classified ads, and the Chesapeake Light Craft builder's forum has a boats for sale section. Either of those would probably be a much more target rich environment than either Craigslist or the Pnet classifieds because ALL of their readers are into wooden boats.

consignment?
Have you considered consignment at the local paddling shop? Our local shop takes in boats for consignment, posts ads for them on CL, lists them on their website, and shows them in their shop (of course). For a specialty craft like this, that may find your target audience better if your own ads on CL and elsewhere don’t pan out.

Perhaps you’ve got a shop in your area that offers that kind of service too. At the very least they may be able to help you with an accurate appraisal for your local market.

Thanks for the idea.
I actually had one shop contact me after I put up a post. I will have to look around locally I don’t even know what’s around here since I’m not into paddling around much.
