Canoe Camping Gear, Packing & Loading for Beginners

I had to pull together introductory materials for canoe camping for a trip I’m helping to lead. I thought I’d share it here in case it’s helpful. But mostly because I expect it will lead to a lot of great arguments. =)

Short Version: Canoe Camping: Gear, Packing & Loading – Geoffrey MacDougall

I like it! I read through the lists with interest because I recently went canoe camping for the first and second times, and solo at that, so I myself had to have everything.

The only issue I have with the short version is that you say a swimsuit is optional for swimming. I would say that no matter how remote your canoe camping is, a swimsuit should be considered mandatory for swimming. It just seems safer.

Cheers!

I just advise people to bring their backpacking equipment. If you have room add a portable chair, maybe a roll up table for the group. If you still have room and you are not portaging much add a small cooler. In the North Woods add an axe.
