I am new to the forum and thought I would seek some advice as I become acquainted with the site. I am a big guy at 6’2" and nearly 400 pounds. I am hoping to trim the last number down as I am back on my feet after an injury. I would like to have a canoe for BWCA, lakes, and some deeper rivers. I was thinking Souris River Quietico 18.5 (renting this summer in BWCA), Wenonah Champlain, or a Northstar Northwind 18. I also just learned about Nova Craft and it’s offerings. There are not many canoe outfitters or dealers in my area so it is hard to put an eyeball on any of them. Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you.
Are you looking for a big solo canoe or a tandem?
Sorry should have mentioned, a tandem and I will be fishing with my boys too.
See if your outfitter will let you try several of these. Assuming that there is a considerable weight differential between you & yur partner you will need to work on packing the canoe to get a reasonable balance.
