Canoe Types--What should I know?

I’m interested in trying different canoe styles and types. I mainly paddle down rivers. I try to find the best rapids and fastest water, so I want something really maneuverable, but I wanted to know how canoe styles fade from totally high-performance to cadillac cruisablity. What are some of the brands/types of canoes that I should look for if I want total manuevering performance? And what type should I look at for more versatility if I wanted to sacrifice some of the pure performance in whitewater canoes?
