Caring for a Hurricane

Hurricane recommends Novus Polish for their boats. They also recommend 303 for UV protection. Has annyone ever used 303 after using the Novus?

Confusing to Floridians in the first month of Hurricane season.

I would treat it as a composite during storage, transport, daily use (no dragging, no running aground) and do whatever else Hurricane Aqua Sports recommends.

Oops!

Hurricanes need no care. They can take care of themselves.

We own 4 Hurricane Santees, and 2 Sojourns, all bought second or third hand. They polish up beautifully! We hose them off good when exiting lakes or rivers to remove weeds and debris, and of course get the salt off them when we have been in saltwater bays or sound. Same routine like a car wash! Hose off with clean water and using those giant soft sponges and a bucket of cold water mixed with a tablespoon of car wash give them a good going over. Rinse with clean water and dry 'em up with soft old towels inside and out. We check the deck bungees and make sure they are tight, and assure that the ports are water tight and dry. Check the bottoms for gouges from oyster shells. Once a year we go over the entire boat with 303 after they are washed and very dry. After applying the 303, we wipe off the excess and polish lightly with a piece of chamois towel. It is a lot of work, but they shine up like new and really stand out.

Lucky to have so many! So 303 is the only thing you apply? Otherwise just wash?

Spirit4earth: that is all we do. We have had hurricane yaks for 15 years, different models. Now that we discovered the lighter Santees, we are selling off the Sojourns. We wash n dry, maybe vaccuum out the insides if they are really sandy. Apply light coat of 303 once a year and rub them down, dry. Store them inside a garage over winter.

I had a Santee 116 for a while, and then a Phoenix 120, and now just a Skimmer 116. Such great boats! I’ve been thinking about getting a Santee Sport. Everything is a lot more expensive than 15 years ago!
May I ask where you paddle?
