Don’t need no stinkin’ footpegs!!
Get rid of 'em Paul! Foam out your front bulkhead and you will never go back to footpegs again. Comfort, control, easier re-enter and rolls, etc.
Once I did that on one boat I could never use footpegs again cause I was spoiled.
Only downside is that the front bulkhead on a stock OI is about 11" past where I usually kept my footpegs set and thats ALOT of foam…

I’m disfunctional (on the anal side)
I have great thigh contact (beefed up padding) but I have the traditional sliding rail rudder controls. I practice rolls with the rudder loose and flopping around so I don't rely too much on firm rudder pedals. I actually use my heel contact with the bottom of the hull to stay secure in the boat, but I like the added support of a tight ass.
I think the advice of shaving down the top of the pads (to lessen resistance to entry) will help a great deal and maybe putting a piece of duct tape or nylon on top to make them slippery.
I'm sure as hell not going on a diet.
Uh, make that "dysfunctional." See?
foot pegs
ideally what I think I may want to do to preserve the original integrity of the boat is to bolt a wood panel on the pegs at their last position and then build up with foam from there.
Other option is to make a couple of collums that attach to the side of the boat vertically in front of the pegs leaving the middle for scooting forward for hand rolls. foot position would then be feet splayed to sides of boat with heels in middle
or make a couple of wooden wedges and drill them through the pegs and cover with a bit of foam…
aaaargh
Paul
maybe I’ll just leave the damned thing alone and figure out how to hand roll it just the way it is.
that’s it. I am calling yakpads.
