Catawba River, NC question

Has anyone paddled the section of the Catawba River from Old Fort NC to lake James and is it doable in a plastic yak or canoe?

Crossing it on highway 70, it looks like it could be done, but is low and rocky right now.



If you can give me any info on it,I would appreciate it.

Charlie & I have done everything downstream from Lake James, but not upstream yet.

unspoiled part.

catawba r.
The river is floatable during the spring from old fort to the lake. Late fall on there are a number of drags. The run is very senic, clear water, forested. A good trip.
