Hello everyone,
I’m looking to see if there are any paddling groups or people in general in the central Ohio area? I’m getting into kayaking, with the eventual goal of running the Gauley in the next few years if my skills get to that level. I do recognize the limitations of ohio and whitewater so I’ll likely be getting a crossover first. Currently I’m leaning towards the Jackson Traverse while I research boats.
I’m east of columbus and work a rotating schedule so I do often have middle of the week days off.
I’ve seen the cinci paddling yahoo group and wondered if there were others out there?

check out the wv wildwater association
at wvwa.net
we have a number of members from eastern ohio
register on the website (you don't have to join or pay to do that) and you can check out upcoming trips and spur of the moment trips (on the forum).
beginners ww clinic on Jun. 11th on the greenbrier river, I'm slackin' a bit but hope to have the beginner clinic info up within a week. On the next day, Sunday June 12th, we paddle the Greenbrier as well. You do have to join ($20.00) if you decide to take the clinic. We get insurance through the aca so we require membership for that.
hope that helps, we're a friendly bunch so come on out and paddle with us.
Several Groups
Check out Meetup.

Sadly the rats have too many druggies in the group. Some great people are in it for sure. However, it is worrisome with the druggies mixing in, especially when shuttling them. Many of us either do not want to be around, nor associate, or CANNOT associate with druggies (yes potheads are druggies too) due to work regulations, or other restrictions.
I may drink a few pbs from time to time when I get off the water but that’s about it but honestly my bigger vice is having pie after a day of paddling. I like to hit the local establishments and see how their desserts compare.
As a whole, we are a pretty sedate mixture of retired folks, families, and the younger 20 somethings seem to be more fitness than party oriented. If that’s what your looking for then the wvwa.net can definately help you reach your goal of running the gauley.
Three of us paddled a local river recently and I remarked, “three river rats: a preacher, a teacher, and cop- what a wild bunch!”
