clamp on racks for pickups from yakima

has anyone used a clamp on truck rack for hauling their kayaks. had a yakima system for my dakota extended cab for several years and now have traded that for a full sized gmc sierra extended cab. the yakima rack system i had was from oak orchard canoe and wont fit this truck. im looking at a yakima 1137 outdoorsman 300 from rack warehouse. this is the one that clamps onto the bed rail. my truck has a bed liner and rail caps so im hoping that is will work for me. what im wondering about is whether or not the clamps stay tight and don’t loosen up while driving. ill be carrying two 11foot kayaks. want the rack to be in the bed instead of half in the bed and the other half on the top of the cab. can’t use the hitch as i have a bike rack on that.thanks for any help. don’t want to drill holes in this truck bed like i did with the dakota… also, want to stick with yakima so that i can still use the saddles and rollers and one of the round bars from the old rack.

i know a guy here in RI
that had that system and loved it…he worked at a shop and beat onit without any problems…one day he and i loaded it up and out (hanging on the sides) with waaaaay too many kayaks…without any problems…

easy to remove if needed…

good to know
that someone has actually used this rack and to the extreme. feeling alittle better about considering getting it. thanks for the reply…

re: Yakima Outdoorsman
I’ve had one on my Nissan Frontier with bedliner for several months. It carries my 18’ yak at least weekly with no problem. The longest trip to date was about 350 miles. The clamps onto the bed have not loosened at all over the months. I suggest you check the allen screws that clamp the crossbars from time to time, however. I’m very happy with it.

thanks
looks like ill be getting the rack. glad to hear that those of you who’ve had experience with the yakima outdoorsman rack are satisfied. thanks for the replies…
