Today, I went to go into the Classifieds and got a 404 Error anyone know what is going on? Did I miss something?
The site owners shut them down because they were overrun with illegal drug ads. Maybe the site owners will bring them back after awhile? Hope so.
Also overrun with scammers targeting people posting things for sale.
Maybe the advertiser saw a lucrative opportunity based on consumer marketing preferences.
Wow never saw any of that in the classifieds, perhaps I was looking at all the wrong ad’s Or perhaps there was embedded malware in the listing and my AV, VPN and all that filtered it out.
Had no idea that that was going on.
Would love to see the Classifieds back up. I have a couple of friends I want to help sell their boats (lots of old hippies with MR and OT royalex stuff - sold mine this spring).
Prob the vast majority of used kayaks are sold on FB nowadays, but I do wish the classifieds here were back.
You don’t need to wait for the Classified section to be restored. Just start a new topic offering the boat or boats you have for sale.
I sold a friend’s higher end canoes a few years ago on here without posting an ad, actually sort of by accident. I wasn’t sure how much to tell him to list it for so I posted a question in the “Advice” category asking the canoeist cohort what they thought would be fair. Got some useful feedback on the price and then a couple of people who spotted or responded to the post expressedinterested in buying it. One turned out to be not that far away so we arranged a deal to meet halfway and swapped the canoe for cash. I’ve bought and sold a few boats (canoes and kayaks as well as accessories) here over the years just through connections in the conversational parts of the forums.
Until they figure out a way to innoculate the Classifieds against the predatory “junk” dealers, that may be the best way to sell and trade paddling related items on here. I’d be inclined to title such a post something like FOR SALE Canoe: 1990 OT Guide 146 sale, northern VA". Those seeking to buy or sell could do a “search” on the “FOR SALE” header to bring up listings .
