I’m looking for a canoe to paint up like a birch bark canoe. Goal is to pass a 50 yd squint test for reenactments. So besides the brown side out paint job, the stems and shear line are the strongest visual cues.
What ever I add to my collection would need to survive living out in the yard uncovered, so I’m thinking fiber glass with minimal wood work.
Ive taken a look at one of the all fiberglass Old Town canoes, and it seemed like it would take paint well, but had a very wide flat bottom, and did seem like it would be much fun to paddle.
So I guess I’m looking for something at least as paddle-able as a Grumman. Any suggestions?
There will be audible clues that it’s not real birch bark if you use a Grumman.
