Article here - short of it is that the work that is normally done to assure a May opening for the lock system is being held up due to the virus. I assume that at some point the Governor will put that work back onto an essential list, but between going late and slow an possible limitations on crew sizes I doubt it’ll save most of May. Those from outside the area may not realize this, but locking thru for even day paddles is not all that uncommon. Plus a lot of marinas above the junction of the Mohawk and the Hudson, which are officially available as launch points again for paddlers, rely on locks being open to attract people willing to pay the dock fees. Otherwise their cruising distance is shorter than they want.
