Daylight Savings - 6 of one

As a morning person, I am going to appreciate seeing dawn earlier than 7 AM. But, I am going to miss my ride home from work in light. No way around it, relief from the seasonal darkness won’t come until sometime in February for those of us who are affected by the diminishing daylight. Until then, more lunch time walks (rides or paddles).

It is depressing having it dark at 5:00, but I do like the light in the morning.

and it’s the one day of the year that todays tide is at about the same time as tomorrows tide
(for those not familiar with tides, they are ‘roughly’ an hour later each day)

I prefer it to still be dark out when I roll into work at 6:40 am. It feels like I’m not missing anything that way. I love it when it’s still light out when I get out of work. Sometimes I’ll get in a quick paddle before sundown. Rolling the clocks back helps me avoid seeing sunshine on my way into the salt mines but it takes away paddling opportunities after I make the great escape. All-in-all it’s mostly a wash.

The good news is that the days start getting longer again in around 45 days.

Good point. Might as well work when it’s dark, if it means a chance of after-work outdoor recreation in a little remaining daylight.

What I hated was going to work in darkness AND also coming home in it. Retirement means not having S.A.D. flood your being for 4 to 5 months every year.

Much too late in life I discovered the way to stop it (before retirement): work a swing-like shift: 1:30 to 10 pm or similar hours.

That’s why I catch up doing other things. 100 days isn’t a long time to do the things other than kayaking. It won’t be long before we’ll be talking about our first trip.

Love it dark early then I don’t have to do anything after work. It’s a great excuse. Close to home 2:30 PM so still two hours of day roughly. Sunset 4:48 today.

It there was a “positive” outcome of the pandemic, it is that some office type workers have been allowed to work remotely and still be “productive” because of technology. As one of these folks, I now only go into the office twice a week and work at home, on my schedule, for the other three days.

There is surf forecasted for tomorrow. I have one Zoom meeting and then I am off to surf the waves for my “lunch break”. The combination of endorphins and adrenaline provides a big boost for my mental health.

Just a note, some tide and current tables do not use daylight saving time and you have to look closely to determine that.

Changing clocks is the one of the dumbest thing humans do. There are no benefits that outweigh the drawbacks. Just pick one and stick with it, like every other species on Earth.

Yeah… I’ve been waking up every morning at 3 AM. My body thinks it is 4 AM rise and coffee time.

Yep…and try to explain it to my dog’s dinnertime-clock and walk-clock and 10 o’clock biscuit clock.

Forget the clock! What I am really envious of this time of year is that you actually have quantitatively about 20 minutes of additional daylight.
