Worst part is…
… that one may fit me!!!
Keep me away from it or I’ll end up with it as a more dedicated rolling qajaq! Even though it was built for more general use for you I have pretty thick legs and suspect - if I could get in at all - that it would be just about right.
Luckily I have zero in the boat budget - or any budget - thanks to my newly incurred LASIK debt.
Suppose I could sell the Tsunami X-1 (a.k.a. “Dusty”), or the Mark 1 (a.k.a. “Bruiser”), or…
Like I said - keep me away from it! Keep it safely in your garage until Sweetwater.
Attached the coaming to my SOF last night. Took the wallpaper steamer (I used for steaming ribs) and it cleaned up a few little wrinkles and really tightened up the skin - which got even tighter as it dried. Like a drum this morning. If it’s still tight when I get home I’m ready to start coating.
Pete ever tell you what he uses?
coating
I know the boat wis painted with a matt finish rustoleum which does not have a tendency to crack. Yours will be semi transparent won’t it? So no I don’t know what he coats it with other than the varnish he mentions on his website.

launch
Are you planning to launch this weekend? If so I can meet you and bring the Strand boat. Be fun to compare.
My new one will be here this next week. Now that I know exactly what I am getting I am really excited…can’t wait!
I might try to sell this boat for Peter from here or just take it to Sweetwater for him.
Paul
Close, but probably not
4th coat is drying now…
Getting 2 coats on each evening so far. May need a few more. Then probably a couple days to let it cure and look for stitch holes that didn’t fill - so most likely not this weekend since it’s already Friday now. Also may rain today - and then temps will drop and slow the drying time.
Maybe Monday. Got an eye appointment at 3:30, and if it doesn’t take too long, and the boat’s done, I might have enough daylight left.
shipping
the beginning of next week. Will launch next Saturday if all goes well and maybe you me and Charlie can meet up. will bring the other one also for Charlie and you to try out.
From George English can we get out to open ocean?
Getting excited again. this time I know exactly what I am getting and am very happy with the decision.

Ocean
Yes, but a few miles to Port E (plus 1/2 mile out inlet - times 2 for return trip. Oleta launch is much closer to inlet - though tide timing is more important at that one. Given the expression on your face last time maybe not a place for first few SOF paddles - as that was about as calm as it gets there. Port E is more open, and less current - and sometimes pretty calm - other times some awesome compound wake action as it’s not a slow zone.
MY SOF IS DONE!!! See other thread. This one’s crazy long now.
Oleta
Wish I had gone through with you now. I think I would have been fine but as you remember I was very concerned with the timing as I had to get back within a half an hour.
Will write on the other thread…this one has to go away. agree it is crazy long.
